Order Information
Before you order further information on an individual feel free to email what details you know about that persons address and occupation at the time as this may help to confirm that you have the correct individual and not someone else by the same name.
Next identify whether the information relating to the individual comes from a newspaper (the reference starts with a N) or West Yorkshire Archives Service (WYAS - all other reference codes) and follow the relevant instructions below.
To order information from a newspaper
Email me the name of the individual and any reference provided. I will notify you of the number of pages that may need photocopying (photocopies are charged at Local Studies Library current rates) and send an invoice via paypal. Once payment has been received then I will visit the relevant local studies library and obtain a copy of the article for you and send it to you via second class post. If you require a different postal service e.g. airmail or recorded let me know and the invoice will be amended accordingly.
To order information from West Yorkshire Archive Service (WYAS)
Email me the name of the individual and any reference provided. Let me know if you are happy to receive digital copies of the information via email or whether you require actual photocopies to be sent via post; digital copies are included in the £5 fee, photocopies are charged at the WYAS current rate (see below). I will notify you of the number of pages that may need copying and send an invoice via paypal. Next download a copy of WYAS "Copy Order" form and fill in your details signing the copyright declaration. Leave the details of copies required blank. Return the form to me - at the address provided after initial contact - and I will complete the reference details. Once I have received both payment and the completed copy order form I will visit the relevant depository and obtain a copy of the information for you, copyright allowing, and send it to you via second class post. If you require a different postal service e.g. airmail or recorded let me know and the invoice will be amended accordingly.
Copyright
Copyright legislation restricts what can or cannot be copied. Single copies of most archive documents may be provided for private study or non-commercial research, there are greater restrictions on copying artistic works, including some maps and plans. Newspapers can only be printed out in hardcopy from microfiche but other documents can either be photocopied or digitally photographed. To copy documents held by West Yorkshire Archive Services they will require you to complete a "Copy Order" form (which can be downloaded online) to ensure that copyright legislation is adhered to. Once you have signed that form and returned it to me, then we can add the appropriate reference and get the archives service to copy the document unless other restrictions apply. Copying is guided by the advice of the West Yorkshire Archive staff and also depends on the quality of the document to be copied and their fragility.
Fee
The fee to obtain information on an individual in the name index is £5 plus photocopying costs. The fee is a contribution towards the cost of creating maintaining and extending the index and the time to retrive the relevant information. Digital copies of documents from WYAS which can be sent electronically by email are included in the £5 fee. Photocopies are normally done in A4 black and white unless specifically requested and is then dependant on appropriate machines being available and working in the depositories. Some individuals will only have one page of information that is relevant but others may have several pages for example and ongoing court case or someone who appears several times before a council committee. When you put in an order I will inform you of the number of pages likely to be necessary. You may also wish to have other documents cross referenced for example other local newspapers/electroal rolls these can be completed at the same time for reduced rate of £4 per specific search.
